The Parliament’s Speaker Mohammed al-Halboosi, on Sunday received Swiss Vice President, Federal Councillor and Foreign Minister Mr. Ignazio Cassis and his accompanying delegation, which included a number of members of the Swiss Parliament.
During the meeting, they discussed strengthening relations between Iraq and Switzerland, means of cooperation according to common interests, the importance of activating friendship committees between the two parliaments, and emphasizing the continuation of joint political action, through the Memorandum of Understanding for the political consultations that were signed between the two countries.
The meeting discussed cooperation in the field of economy and investment, urging Swiss companies to work in Iraq and create job opportunities and employment for youth, as well as cooperation in the humanitarian field with regard to the issue of the displaced and returning them to their regions as a step that strengthens efforts to achieve stability in the country.
The meeting also touched on the regional and international situation and emphasized the importance of dialogue to achieve security and stability.
For his part, the Swiss Vice President expressed his country’s desire to strengthen relations with Iraq and expand the horizons of cooperation in all fields in order to achieve development and prosperity, noting the importance of supporting Iraq in enhancing its security and stability as it is an important part of the region’s security.
