Al-Halboosi receives the Premier of Palestine State
The Parliament Speaker Mohammed al-Halboosi, on Monday, received the Palestinian Prime Minister Mohammad Shtayyeh and his accompanying delegation, which is on an official visit to Baghdad.
H.E. said that the visit has a great impact for the circumstances of the Arab nation and the region, stressing Iraq’s firm position on the establishment of a Palestinian state with Jerusalem as its capital, and its support for Arab and international peace initiatives and stop Israeli settlements and resolutions of international legitimacy.
The Parliament Speaker pointed out that Iraq’s refusal to participate in the Manama conference is a confirmation of its steadfast stance towards the rights of the Palestinian people.
The Parliament is determined to activate parliamentary friendship committees and parliamentary cooperation between the two countries, H.E. said, pointing out the role of Iraq in the Arab and international parliamentary movement not to infringe on the rights of the Palestinian people and reject all attempts to Judaize Jerusalem and the al-Aqsa Mosque.
Mr. al-Halboosi expressed the keenness of the legislative and executive authorities to preserve the rights of Palestinians living in Iraq and protect them and ensure the benefits of the heirs to the rights of Palestinian retirees working in state institutions and revealed the desire to form a parliamentary delegation to visit Ramallah in the future, as a popular support to the Palestinian people’s rights.
For his part, the Palestinian Prime Minister Mohammad Shtayyeh said that the success of the Iraqi Council of Representatives with its diverse constituents represented the people has enabled the Iraqis to achieve victory over terrorism, appreciating the positions of the Iraqi parliament in Arab world and internationally in supporting the Palestinian cause and the rights of the Palestinian people.
The meeting was attended by the Chairman of the Foreign Relations Committee and its members in the House of Representatives, the Minister of Commerce Dr. Mohammed Hashim al-Ani the Head of the Mission of Honour accompanying the Palestinian delegation and the Head of the Arab Department in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Ambassador of Iraq, Commissioner and non-resident in Palestine Safia al-Suhail.
