Al-Kaabi: We seek to approve all laws related to the rights of Iraqi women

The First Deputy Speaker Mr. Hasan Karim al-Kaabi received in his office on Tuesday December 11, 2018, Ms. Bergit Lubash the Head of the German Parliamentarian Organization and Ms. Alisha Multer Head of the Iraqi Women’s Empowerment Program, in the presence of a member of the Women’s Affairs Committee MP Haifa Al-Amin who played a major role in holding the meeting and coordinating between the Council of Representatives and the above mentioned German organization.
“The current parliamentary session will strive to legislate all laws that support women’s rights and prevent violence against them. This requires the support of local and international civil society organizations specialized in this field,” said al-Kaabi.
He pointed to “the great role that local and international civil society organizations concerned with women’s rights should play, through holding courses, workshops, seminars and conferences on the laws that grant women their rights. Women should be supported to reach higher levels in the future”.
Ms. Alisha explained that “her organization, in coordination with the German government and civil society organizations in Iraq, is working in Iraq in the field of empowerment of women, and the last activity is the empowerment course in which many women participated, including parliamentarians, leaders in the government departments and heads of organizations. We will do it every two months, and we need the support of the Iraqi Council of Representatives to legislate laws that support women’s rights. “.
